Intellectual Outputs & Documents

This project will last for 25 months and will implement:

• an online diagnostic tool for assessment of leadership in teachers
• a face to face course for developing leadership in teachers
• an E-course for developing leadership in teachers

Online diagnostic tool for assessment of leadership in teachers.

We will develop a taxonomy (i.e. a classification into ordered categories with a description of each of them) of leadership focused on teachers. The skills addressed by the Taxonomy will be the following:

  1. Decision making
  2. Creativity / problem solving
  3. Setting goals / planning
  4. Listening / Negotiating
  5. Team building
  6. Communicating
  7. Observing / Monitoring / Diagnosing
  8. Time management
  9. Stress management

The list is inspired to the list of school leadership role competences identified by the European Commission’s Thematic Working Group “Teacher Professional Development” in the meeting held in Limassol on the 17-21 October 2010, and will be grounded in the school environment according to the principles of P. Hersey and K. Blanchard (Situational leadership) as adapted to school environment by Peter Gronn (distributed leadership).

The taxonomy is inspired by the list of school leadership role competences identified by the European Commission’s Thematic Working Group “Teacher Professional Development” (Limassol, 17-21 October 2010), and will be grounded in the school environment according to the principles of P. Hersey and K. Blanchard (Situational leadership) as adapted to school environment by Peter Gronn (distributed leadership).

The online tool will allow teachers to assess their leadership competence and characteristics. The tool will use simulations and cases to stimulate a self-assessment and – accordingly to their choices – will give some indicators concerning the behaviour of the teachers in the “leadership area”.
